Climate Action for Urban Transformation
ACLIMA URBAN CENCYL is a cross-border cooperation project between cities in Castile and León and Portugal's Central Region, aimed at strengthening their joint capacity to respond to the effects of climate change.
The project is based on the Municipal Climate Action Plans developed by the cities of the CENCYL Network. Its purpose is to consolidate information on greenhouse gas emissions, their main sources, and the mitigation and adaptation measures planned in each municipality.
Project Objectives
- Share information on climate-related emissions, risks and vulnerabilities.
- Identify the main sources of emissions and the common challenges across the territory.
- Coordinate mitigation and adaptation measures among participating cities.
- Develop Joint Climate Action Guidelines for the CENCYL Network.
- Strengthen response capacity to heat stress and water stress.
Based on this work, a set of Joint Climate Action Guidelines will be developed to establish common criteria for preventing and managing the main climate risks and vulnerabilities affecting the territory.
Body
Urban Solutions, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer
ACLIMA URBAN CENCYL will promote new tools and solutions to help cities become more sustainable and better prepared to address the challenges of climate change.
Areas of Action
- Nature-based solutions.
- Urban greening and renaturalisation of public spaces.
- Sustainable water management.
- Technological tools for climate adaptation.
- Knowledge transfer and capacity building.
In addition, the project will encourage collaboration between public administrations, businesses and professionals to facilitate the implementation and replication of the solutions developed.
Body
More Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable Cities
The project incorporates the social dimension of climate vulnerability, paying particular attention to the most fragile urban areas and to the people most exposed to the impacts of climate change.
To achieve this, a CENCYL NEB Hub will be developed, inspired by the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), which brings together sustainability, inclusion and the quality of urban spaces.
Through this approach, ACLIMA URBAN CENCYL will promote more comfortable, resilient and sustainable cities, while also fostering the exchange of experiences and best practices among the participating municipalities.
